U9 Lions Are Finally Bexley B League Champions
- Tuesday, 15 May 2012 20:26
Yes... the wait is finally over! Unbeknown to me, as the Lions were playing a Bexley shield double banker vs South Darenth white, a few miles away Halls AFC were playing Sutcliffe Rangers. Halls needed nothing less than a win to be crowned champions.
The gods must have been looking down on the Long Lane U9 Lions this day, as not only did the Lions win both games against South Darenth 5-1, but the game between Halls AFC v Sutcliffe Rangers finished Halls AFC -2 Sutcliffe rangers -5. That result crowned the Long Lane Lions as Bexley B League Champions!
As I said at the beginning of the season, any team could have won the league as there was not much between any of the teams in the Bexley B. The Lions totally deserved this after a long and hard season and a wait of 5 weeks to hear the news! I am over the moon for the boys, as well as all the parents who give Jim and I so much support. I must also say congratulations to Ed Nedjari and the U9 Tigers who have also won the Selkent C League. A double for the Long Lane Under 9s.

Under 7 Erith and Belverdere Tournament.
- Monday, 14 May 2012 03:34
Another busy weekend for the under 7 Lions, this week we played in the Erith and Belvedere Tournament. There was some very good teams playing in this tournament but yet again we held our own.
We had a bit of a wobbly start but when we got going we played some really good football, when these boys listen they are excellent, Henry was the pick of the bunch this weekend.
The tournament was held on Welling United's pitch, there must have been about 400 people watching from the stands and terrace's but none of our boys showed any nerves, the Lions got to have alook round the E & B 1st team changing rooms and had our team name called out over the PA system as they came running out the tunnel and on to the pitch.
Another tournament finished and another huge step down the footballing life of the Long Lane Lions.
Richies Blue Smash Peckham and Charge on to the Final

After all the rain we had a hurricane as the firsts put on an awesome display to easily win this Beckenham Hospital cup semi-final.
They were so much on top throughout that the ref could easily have blown up half an hour early and Peckham would probably not have complained. Manager Rich, as always, gave an inspired team talk, considering the bad luck we've encountered in the past three seasons in cup competitions. His words were well received and from the first whistle to the last we were faster, stronger and much more determined. Believe me, the scoreline flattered Peckham.
We set up for the match with a 4-4-2 formation and quickly adjusted to 3-5-2 pushing our opponents back. Our defence had Jason Kelly in goal, behind skipper Jack Roberts, Ricky Bolt and Jack Doherty. In midfield we had Lee Wilton, Tom Rolt, Tony Franklin, Troy Williams and Bobby McGuane. Our attack had Joe Crook and Brett Northover. Aaron Scott, Tom Mayfield and Robb Grogan all played much of the second half.

Girls Win Trophy for the Second Year!
- Wednesday, 25 April 2012 11:57
What a great tour and what a fabulous final, I'm still buzzing, the girls were absolutely sensational in winning the Great Yarmouth Soccer Classic for the second year running!
All 13 girls combined to put in brilliant performaces right throughout the tournament against good, strong opposition. What was I saying the other week about our girls being too nice and not physical enough, well that all changed with the girls adding strength and determination to the ability I always knew they had.
In goal, player of the tour, Amelia was outstanding making one vital penalty save in the semi-final and a great save to win us the trophy in the penalty shoot out. At the back Jessica W played way above herself and was a true captain. Jessica T was commanding at centre back, scoring a great goal to add to her birthday celebrations. I have not seen Maia play so well for a long time, casting off the cold and rain she was in fine form with Dad shouting out "Maia you're on fir today!"
