Paul Merson Presents U10 Lions, Tigers and Pumas Awards
Paul Merson was guest of honour at the U10s presentation evening on Saturday 15th June at Long Lane. What a great host he was too!
He chatted to the boys about how he got started in football and a few of his experiences whilst playing for teams such as Arsenal, Middlesborough and Aston Villa to name but a few. He also spoke of his England career and then had a 20 minute question and answer session with the boys before presenting each child with his trophy.
Afterwards he held an autograph session where every boy got a signed picture of Paul and a few Arsenal shirts were also signed. Paul then stayed for another hour chatting to everyone and still answering questions, it was obvious that he enjoyed the night too!
Pete (Lions), Ed (Tigers) and Rob (Pumas) would like to thank every one for their help in putting on an excellent presentation night for the Lions, Tigers and Pumas. Not long now till we start planning the next one!
Under 8 Tournament 2013.
A scorching Saturday 25th May, the Under 8's held their first ever 6 a side tournament at Dursley Road and what a great day was had by all the teams that entered. There was so much hard work done by James in the Long Lane Office and Paul from the U8 Tigers to get this tournament running - Thanks Gents you did a fantastic job.
Long Lane had 4 teams entered 2 from the Tigers and 2 from the Lions, each team had to play 7 league games, then if they progressed a semi final and a final. Every one of the Long Lane sides up held the tradition of the club, they were all well behaved and respectful and played some fantastic football.
After a great day the 2 Tigers teams narrowly missed out on the semi's, the 2 Lions teams had to face each other in one of the semi's - Long Lane Lions A narrowly won this game on penalties, this was the only way these two teams could be separated. The other semi was just as tight with Athenlay FC and Footscray White only managing to separate themselves after a penalty shoot-out as well.
In the final Long Lane A had to play Athenly FC - the Lions ran out 5-0 winners, the biggest cheers for every goal came from the Long Lane Lions B team, now this is what being a team is about, even though disappointed they still cheered on there team mates - pure class boys love it.
A great day had by all we're all ready looking forward to next years tournament - Thanks again to the club for helping to get this tournament on.

Long Lane Girls Triumph at Cup Finals
Long Lane girls' football teams enjoyed a 100 per cent record of success at the Kent Girls and Ladies League Cup Finals day on Sunday (May 19th).
The most dramatic final involved Mick Northwood's Under 13's (left) who had to go through extra time, after finishing the game 1-1, and then a marathon penalty shoot-out before winning against Petts Wood. It was very nerve-wracking for the girls, especially as several of them had to score to stop Long Lane losing. But they were more calm than poor old Mick who couldn't even bear to watch and had to turn away as each girl stepped up to take their kick!
